Los Angeles is home to some of the deadliest highways in California, including the 5 Freeway and the 101. You are also most likely to hit an animal while driving across the Santa Monica Mountains, west of Pasadena, or on the 2.
Still, the Los Angeles Times and The Automobile Club of California previously identified the intersection of Walnut Street and Pasadena Avenue as the most dangerous intersection in all of Los Angeles County.
Dangerous Intersections in and Around Pasadena
On its breakdown of the most dangerous intersections in L.A., the Auto Club identified 4 of the top 11 most dangerous intersections in Pasadena. Huntington Drive and Sunset Boulevard is another dangerous spot in nearby Arcadia, as well as Brand Boulevard and Goode Avenue in Glendale and Corson and Marengo avenues in Pasadena proper. Hill Avenue and Maple Street is another hazardous intersection in Pasadena.
In these areas, safety officials explain:
“Motorists could be taking on a freeway driving mentality before they actually reach the freeway, or keep driving like they’re on the freeway when they are exiting.”
Los Angeles drivers are notoriously aggressive, and traffic creates major problems within the city. While some may expect these problems to lessen further from Hollywood, Downtown, and the beach, Pasadena roadways are some of the most dangerous in the county.
Even the nearby Angeles Crest Highway is home to serious accidents and fatalities, particularly when “canyon carvers” drive fancy motorcycles and sports cars as fast as they can around the highway’s treacherous curves.
Traffic and Trouble Spots
Because Pasadena is the site of popular employer’s like NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech), as well as concert venues like the Rose Bowl and nearby scenery, drivers run into car accidents and trouble spots during both commutes and recreational driving.
Keep an eye out for these hazardous highways and infamous intersections when you’re driving, and if something goes wrong, call Tedford & Associates for help with the aftermath.
